Salmo trutta trutta |
| Distribution |
Native to Asia and Europe. It has been widely introduced in North America. |
| Size |
Max. Length - 140 cm (Approx. 55.1")
Max. Weight - 50 Kg (Approx. 110.2 Lbs)

| Habitat |
Brown Trout prefer cold, well-oxygenated waters. Their tolerances are lower than those of rainbow trout. They favour large streams in mountainous areas that provide cover like rocks, banks with undercuts and overhanging plant life.
They feed on insects (both aquatick and land), mollusks, crustaceans and small fish. They spawn in their river homes. Their life and spawning is similar to the Salmon's. |
| What do they Look Like? |
The Brown Trout is the only salmon or trout with orange on the adipose fin. They sport large black, blue or red spots on it's body. These spots are often encircled by a light halo. The tail will have a few spots. |
| What Works |
The Brown Trout often feeds at night. They can be caught with live bait, spoons, spinners and small plugs. |
