- Always check your regulations for bans or restrictions on the water you are fishing.
- If the weather is warm, you will find bug hatches on the water system you are fishing. Move to these "hatching" areas and fish the deeper water along the shorelines.
- Find the "drop off" in the lake and fish it vigorously. It can usually be located 10-20 feet off shore. A great technique is to anchor inside of the drop off about 10 feet and cast out. Let the bait or lure drop then slowly present it with jerk movements and without on the retrieve. The fish may be suspended so allow the lure or bait to drop at different depths. Trolling slowly through drop off areas can also be very effective.
- Another great technique for trout is to look for feeder systems on the lake. Ie: Creeks, streams or rivers. These areas provide a food highway for fish. As Trout naturally spawn in current, they have an instinct to move into these areas. They frequent inlets of any kind looking for insects and other food brought in with the current. The fish usually swim in wait in front of the inlet or on the corners where the inlet meets the lake and insects hatch regularly.
- Cast everywhere, if something has not hit for you in the way of lures or bait then change it. Change your location and depth and you will be successful. The worst thing you can do is stay in one spot for the weekend if you are catching nothing.
