Ocean Fishing Tips and Suggestions

  • When on the ocean it is important to first put things in perspective and focus.
  • The ocean has a myriad of potential hazards and should be treated with a great deal of respect. Only when we truly regard the vastness and magnitude, can we commence to discover its fishing possibilities. Whenever we go out into a new area of the ocean, we do so with a professional guide. This person can teach us about the topographies (lay of the underwater land) from a hydrographical standpoint and also educate us as to the climatologic, relevant hotspots, potential dangers and equipment that you will need to proceed.
  • We recommend a minimum 24 foot boat with a large inboard engine and a large outboard engine for backup. Global Positioning System (GPS), VHF radios (bring two, one as a backup), charts and the ability to read the charts as well as navigate with them are a all smart ideas. You must know where you are relative to shipping lanes, rock structures & weather patterns at all times. Make sure to, at minimum have all legally required equipment, documents and safety gear on board.
  • Always be aware of all applicable regulations and ensure that your boat is well maintained.
